Venue: Fort Portal Secondary School

Background

Fort Portal Secondary School, nestled in the scenic hills of Western Uganda, has long been a place where young talent flourishes. Recently, that talent in fortportal  given a powerful stage.

The Torobelle Literacy Foundation brought its Essay Writing Competition to the school a platform designed to nurture creative expression, sharpen critical thinking, and celebrate the beauty of the written word. The students were given topics tackling education challenges and environmental issues in Uganda.

The mission was simple yet profound:

  • To inspire students to think deeply.
  • To equip them with stronger writing skills.
  • To build the confidence needed to share their voices with the world.

Highlights

From the very first moment, the atmosphere was electric. Desks were filled with eager faces, pens moving rapidly as ideas flowed onto paper. The competition challenged students to turn thoughts into impactful words structuring arguments, telling stories, and expressing visions for the future.

After hours of writing and careful review by the judging panel, the best essays emerged shining examples of clarity, originality, and purpose.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for the awards ceremony. The winners were called forward to the sound of cheers and applause. They received certificates, prizes, and heartfelt congratulations from peers, teachers, and the Torobelle team.

Impact

The event left more than just happy memories it planted seeds for lasting change:
